This summer, a group of students and teachers in Carpentersville, Illinios came together with determination to make a difference in the lives of working people. Calling themselves the Youth Labor Committee, the group has been working to pressure corporations into fair labor practices, building links to unions and other labor organizations, and trying to educate their fellow students about the realities of sweatshops.
The YLC’s next campaign is against the department store giant Sears. They want the corporation to provide transparent information about where their products are manufactured, and ensure that workers at those locations are allowed to unionize for their own benefit. YLC will be holding a protest outside of Sears’ corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates (outside Chicago) on December 10.
YLC also has another interesting project, which is the creation of materials for teachers who wish to educate their students about the relationships between labor, corporations, and the environment, that teachers can download for free from the YLC website.

Axis of Justice is a non-profit organization formed by Tom Morello and Serj Tankian. Its purpose is to bring together musicians, fans
of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.

I really like how you guys hyped the crap outta this one. On the Facebook page, the clincher reads: “Impressive new student org in Illinois looking to educate the world and take on the sweatshop empire of Sears.” But the article is vague and only mentions that the students want to see some transparency in their business practices. It doesn’t mention that they have any evidence of ’sweatshop’ practices, although I am not arguing against that point. I am just asking for some consistency. Plus, why go after Sears? If you’re talking about empires, the Sears of today is like comparing modern-day and ancient Greece.
finally! dont ever give up what you stand for. everyone in this country should be proud of these people!
