Axis of Justice is very pleased to hear about the overturning of California’s homophobic Proposition 8, which prohibited gay marriage. A federal judge ruled that the law is unconstitutional. Gay people are people, and all of us deserve the same rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Proposition 8 was an example of one group of people trying to impose their religious beliefs and bigotry on another, through the power of the law.
Yes, the law will be appealed, and who knows what will happen at that point. And it is uncertain if the judge’s decision will allow gay people to marry while the law is being appealed. But for now, we’ll celebrate a victory.

I agree that this is a big step,I hope that it stays this way and maybe people will except the we all are people and get over it
I live in Italy…gay marriage is so far away in my country….not only from the constitution but mostly from the minds of people….. I hope in a close future we can debate about this too…..
I live in Argentina, and the gay marriage became a law a month ago. I’m happy as a young activist, because the discrimination caused by this is absurd. How can be the Gay Marriage evil? I’m atheist, and if I would be religious, I’d still support this matter. No on Prop 8.
In response to proposition 8 being an example of one group of people trying to impose their religious befeifs on another, I completely agree. Religion is a person’s own beleif, and at no point should a state or society dictate that one beleif must be beleived or is correct. The state is in place to accomodate its citizens, not prohibit them. It reminds me of the quote; “brother, you may beleive in stones, as long as you do not throw them at me.” You may beleive what you want as you like, as long as it does not inhibit the lives of others.
