Support Guitar Workers Concert on March 18!

Support Guitar Workers Concert on March 18!

In early January 2010, guitar manufacturers from Korea came to the  United States to protest against unfair treatment and pay by the companies who employed them.  We learned that the factory owners who are mistreating their employees sell their guitars to big name American guitar companies like Fender and Gibson.

Their struggle continues. This Thursday, March 18, workers and musicians will gather together for a solidarity concert in downtown Los Angeles.  You can be there, and help send a message.

Congressional Panel Recognizes Armenian Genocide

Congressional Panel Recognizes Armenian Genocide

By a narrow vote, the House Foreign Affairs Committee has approved a resolution to declare that the massacre of 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks in 1915 was a genocide. This has long been an important issue to Armenians, who want their suffering recognized. However, Turkey has continually denied this, and has threatened the US government to leave this topic alone.  And US politicians have usually relented, fearing that taking this stand would hurt diplomatic and military relations between the two countries. In fact, the White House and the US State Department both put pressure on this committee not to approve this resolution.

The bill will now go to the full House for a vote, where no one is sure of the final outcome.
